About ThinkingBeyond
We are a non-profit educational organisation that prepares talented youth to become STEM leaders through our innovative pedagogical framework. Open to curious high school and undergraduate students with a strong passion for Physics, Maths or Computer Science around the World, we explore the subjects beyond the traditional curriculum while taking a researcher’s point of view. Our expert educators focus on communicating knowledge and insights not found in standard textbooks, lectures or YouTube videos. In our teaching we put strong emphasis on developing skills to make our students ready for the mastering the challenges of the 21st Century. Our online programmes distinguish themselves by being engaging, interactive and by having an educational impact.
Our interactive BeyondX online programmes instruct students to develop a scientist’s viewpoint and rigour through re-inventing subject knowledge, developing the skill set of a researcher, completing hands-on team assignments and conducting a supervised project.
So far we have developed two programmes in the BeyondX programme series:
- BeyondQuantum: Introduction to Quantum and Research (run as Introduction to Quantum Research for Girls in its first iteration)
- BeyondAI: Introduction to AI and Research
PSC Role Description
You will be supporting and supervising a group of five participants for the duration of the respective BeyondX programme. You will help them navigate through the programme successfully by acting as a friendly bridge between your group and the organisers. Besides checking on your supervisees regularly, encouraging and advising them, you will also track their submissions, and rate and provide feedback on their progress tracker on Notion once per week.
Although knowledge of maths, programming in Python and how to work with Notion is recommended for this role, you do not need to be a subject expert. We will have dedicated tutors to answer subject-specific questions about maths, programming in Python and X (specific subject(s) of the programme) in designated Discord threads you can direct your supervisees to.
Key Responsibilities as a PSC
- Check in with, and support participants throughout the duration of the programme
- Supervise a group of five participants by recording, checking in and reminding them to complete what is expected from them in our various platforms and our central system
- Answer student’s questions about sessions and assignments, as well as direct them to the right discord channel and thread for technical questions
- Act as the friendly responsive bridge between participants and organisers
- Help with specific organisation tasks during the programme
- If possible, host Sunday social activities with our designated community engagement lead
Who are we looking for
- Passionate about supporting students and creating a safe and enjoyable learning experience
- Responsible and able to commit 1-2 hours/week to your tasks for the duration stated in the time commitment
- Ability to communicate in English
- Having some knowledge about Notion, maths and Python is beneficial (no worries – you do not need to be an expert)
What's in it for you?
- Expand your network with X (referring to the subjects treated) experts and enthusiastic participants
- Attend all live sessions and talks delivered by experts
- Play a role in pioneering high-quality STEM education
- Obtain valuable work experience in this field
- Receive a signed staff certificate appreciating the fulfilment of your duties, upon request.
